Our Mission
The Evanston/Skokie School District 65 Library Media Department is committed to equipping students with the resources, skills and tools to be responsible learners for the 21st century. Through collection development, teacher collaboration and student instruction, library media specialists work to support the district curriculum and instruction goals, teach information literacy skills, utilize technology and foster literature appreciation. The department promotes cooperation with the high school library, public libraries and other community agencies to create lifelong learners
WHAT'S HAPPENING IN OUR LIBRARY
The Kleap program for Kindergarten
Kindergarten Literacy Education at Play (Kindergarten LEAP) is an early literacy program developed by the LEAP team at Evanston Public Library. Through innovative play scenarios, Kindergarten LEAP addresses early literacy skill building and community and social interaction. For more information on Foundation 65 and the Kleap program, please visit their website by clicking on the F65 icon.
F65 Family Author/Illustrator Experience
The Family Author program brings a children’s author to a set of District 65 schools each year and includes a combination of school, family and community based activities. Through each school’s library and classrooms, students read and/or become familiar with pre-determined, grade-appropriate books by the chosen author. Pre and post visit activities are developed to complement the theme or focus of the author’s work and are coordinated by classroom teachers and the librarian at each school.
